Q:  What should I expect at my first visit? A:  On your first visit, we ask that you come fifteen minutes prior to your scheduled appointment so our office staff can process the patient registration information we have either mailed to you, or that you have downloaded from our website.  Our office makes every effort to stay on schedule.  You can help us avoid wasting your valuable time and that of our other patients if you have your paperwork already filled out and arrive early for your first appointment. Once your paperwork has been processed, our hygienist will take you to an examination room, discuss your dental concerns and dental history, take oral photos of your mouth with a special digitalized camera, and also update your dental x-rays if you cannot provide us with a copy of dental x-rays that are less than one year old.  Once all information has been collected, Dr. Chabot will begin your exam. Since Dr. Chabot believes that patient education is a very important part of all dental treatment, he will go over your dental photos and x-rays during your exam.  Once your exam is completed, Dr. Chabot will make his recommendations for any treatment needed, then turn the appointment over to our hygienist who will clean your teeth unless it has been determined during your exam that you need more than a routine dental cleaning.  At the end of your appointment, you will be given a comprehensive treatment plan and our appointment coordinator will schedule the needed appointments required to complete your dental treatment. We make every effort to answer any and all questions you may have about your exam results.  Please do not hesitate to make sure all of your questions have been answered to your satisfaction. Q:  Dental treatment has always made me nervous.  What can you do to help? A:  There is no reason to be embarrassed that you aren’t particularly fond of being in the dental chair.  Apprehension is actually a normal response to dental treatment.  To help lessen your anxiety, we can prescribe anti-anxiety medication to be taken prior to your appointment (as long as you have a driver) and/or we can provide nitrous oxide during your dental treatment.  We also have earphones available so you can relax with music and minimize dental noise, or if you prefer you are welcome to bring your iPod.  Although we realize we can never make dental treatment “fun,” our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible during your dental treatment. Q:  Am I required to pay any portion of my new patient exam? A:  Not all dental insurance companies cover the full expense of dental exams and cleanings.  Once you have provided us with your insurance information, our front office staff will be able to give you an estimate of the portion of the appointment, if any, that you will be responsible for on the day of your appointment.  For your convenience, we accept cash, personal checks, debit cards, and also Visa, MasterCard, and American Express for payment of your treatment.
